UFS101- 3rd Reflection Topic

Eveyone has a different perspective on what a healthy lifestyle is, but it really comes down to practicing good health habits and giving up harmful ones. With a healthy lifestyle you can only get positive reinforcements out of it, such as feeling good, you will have more energy, sleep better and be more relaxed, looking good, you will have a nice toned body, strong muscles, bright eyes healthy hair and skin, and most important you will be happy, you will have a better outlook on life. Two major factors I will be talking about are healthy eating and exercising.

Healthy eating will surely gave a edge on weight loss. Some ideas to try are eat breakfast, which I believe a lot of people skip because they don't have time but eating breakfast stimulates how you feel for the rest of the day and also may slow down your metabolism. Eat more fruits and vegetables. When eating a salad, use a little bit of salad dressing. Only use 1 tablespoon. Let the dressing coat not drench the salad. When eating meat choose reduced fat or the leanest cuts also make sure you trim all the visible fat and drain the grease. Now fried foods, they are very high in fat and clog your arteries so try to stay away or limit the intake to very little. After dinner you always seem to have a little room for desert, substitute with low fat or fat free goods or choose fruit. Another big problem is eating out, which tends to be good but very fatting and high in calories. Drink 8 glasses of a water a day, try to take a morning walk, avoid fried foods, don't eat 2 hours before bed, cut back or down on alcohol, cigaretties and caffeine and also keep track of what you eat.

Another factor of living a healthy lifestyle is exercising. Regular exercises reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Making time to exercise 20 mins a day 3 times a week for a start will make a world of difference as long as your keep it regular. A few type of exercises are aerobic which burns fat calories very quickly improves and maintains heart and lung fitness. Some examples are dancing, jogging, and swimming. Another one is High Resistance exercise, which is very important for athletics examples are heavy weight training and sprints.

Therefore, a better quality of life can be enjoyed with a healthy eating and exercise, which is the type of life that I wish to live.

UFS101- 2nd Reflection Topic

Ever so often we read about people, local and foreign, affected by natural disasters and accidents. We  want to help as we feel strongly about their unfortunate circumstances. We want to help but feel distressed that we are not able to do anything about it. Then, the feeling passes and life goes on.

There are many ways by which I can help others who are less fortunate. One of the easiest and commonest ways is to make donations in cash and kind. I read about a person or family in financial distress and I donate generously. An orphanage is in need of electrical equipment, I give generously to help them. A more meaningful way of helping others is by doing volunteer work. Visits to orphanages and old folks' homes are arranged to allow help the people who stay in special homes or centres. Another form of volunteer work or community service is reading to the visually-impaired at their centres or visit sick children in the hospitals. I can also volunteer as counselors for the Befrienders, a non-profit organization to help those in need of a friend who is willing to listen but non-judgmental.

Visiting to Foreign Countries is very interesting. If I had the opportunity to visit a foreign country, I would want to go to Malawi, Africa. It is the poorest country in Africa. I would like to go there because I would like to help the needy and take care of them. They have feelings and they are human being too. We tend to neglect them while they need support from others so they feel someone truly cares about them in this world. They are alive and present in this world, and they deserve something better than starvation and loneliness.

I want to meet the children of Malawi and make them feel comforted. I would try to the best of my abilities bring a smile back into each and every one of their precious faces. I want to help them out, feed them, take care of them and most importanly make them feel as part of this world. The pictures of the unfortunate Africans makes me sad and prompts me to action. All kinds of feelings pass through my heart when I think about it. I feel something beyond myself. I feel compassion and something needs my help.

Increasing support could save millions of lives and change the way wealthy nations are viewed by the rest of the world. There are many ways one can do. It depends on whether one is willing or not.

People may have many different types of favorites and hobbies during their lifetimes. Well, as for me, my favorite things to do when I have free time is bowling, my only alternative to life. I love to bowl. Nobody on the face of this Earth can stop me from picking up a bowling ball. That would be like trying to stop a hurricane. Bowling is a very tough sport. Eventhough I'm not a pro and the ball is a bit expensive to buy, but it's not a boundary for me to love doing it.

As for my special hobby, I really enjoy drawing. There are two reasons why I like drawing. One reason is I love to draw beautiful pictures. The other reason is I like creating nothing into something. I will be creating thing for a long time. I think everyone in the world could appreciate a beautiful picture. That's why I love drawing, making a lovely picture or sculpture that people will enjoy seeing. I really love a lot of colourful things that will make my eyes get excited to see.

Building things out of nothing is very wonderful to me. I could take a bag of garbage and make a lovely sculpture. Starting out with a blank clean paper is so refreshing to me. After I examine the paper  I start sketching out the picture. Then I start to paint. That makes me feel like I accomplished something. I plan to do it forever.
